![]() Siobhan is our Reflexologist and she works at the clinic every Monday 1-7pm. She is fully qualified, a member of the Association of Reflexologists (AoR) and is listed on the Complementary & Natural Healthcare (CNHC) accredited register. Reflexology is based on the concept that there are reflex points on the feet (or hands) that can be mapped to every organ, gland and structure of the body. The treatment is a touch therapy that involves massage and placing pressure on these specific points of the feet in order to treat the whole body. It is not a magic cure for a specific illness, a reflexologist cannot diagnose or cure, and does not aim to be a replacement for seeking medical advice from your GP. What it does aim to do is bring your body into balance and to get it working at its optimum level. By working with your feet, Siobhan will find any areas of imbalance and can tailor your treatment to help bring your body back to where it should be. Siobhan comes from a maths and science background and spent a number of years working in finance, so reflexology was not the obvious next step. Having come across reflexology when trying to conceive and in need of stress relief, she was sceptical as to how much difference a 'foot massage' could really make to on-going stress. But the results were very clear, very quickly; Improved sleep, feeling more balanced emotionally and to top it off the tangible proof was the complete regulation of menstrual cycles. That felt like proof that this 'foot massage' could actually help her body to function at it's best. After experiencing such positive and definite effects, Siobhan decided to train as a reflexologist. Both during her training and since qualification, she noted that a large proportion of her clients were reporting symptoms of stress, and how regular reflexology sessions make a tangible difference to their reported feelings of stress and in turn their general well-being. By treating stress, you are treating the body as a whole; back and shoulder pain, hormonal imbalance, insomnia, low energy and low immunity, the list goes on. The science on this is increasing and is gaining more traction in the media and with medical professionals. Siobhan has recently undertaken further training in Mindful Reflexology which specifically focuses on treating clients suffering with stress, anxiety and depression. She has personal and professional experience of how reflexology can support this client group and is pleased to be able to offer a more directed approach to her treatments, together with a number of self help techniques. Siobhan has also completed further study in Maternity Reflexology which supports the work that she does with Muma Nurture, a charity supporting people through issues with fertility, pregnancy and related loss. If you would like to know more about reflexology and how it could help you, then Siobhan would be happy to chat with you on phone prior to booking.

The founding four members have had a reshuffle and we welcome Siobhan and Vicky to the team, who will be introducing themselves in upcoming blog posts. We are looking forward to the next six months and taking forwards the learnings from our trial six months as a collective. Working collectively gives us all a supporting team who looks out for us as well as people to share ideas with and ask for opinions. It removes the isolation of being a lone therapist, without any of us losing any of our own identity, and still being able to practice in a way that is authentically our own. Because we feel strong and supported, we are in a great position to be able to hold space and time for our clients to achieve the best outcomes from their time with us. We can offer coaching, counselling, reflexology and hypnotherapy for a range of issues to bring about positive change in people's lives. We can help you through transitions and through difficult times. If you think that one of the team could be the therapist, coach or counsellor that you have been looking for, get in touch for a free initial chat to find out how we can help you. Our range of services is expanding so watch this space for more updates and to see how we can help even more people reach the therapist who is right for them. A new page might be just what you need. How can we help you to make the fresh start that you need?
![]() Victoria Sparkes is our Counsellor and appointments are currently available with her here on Wednesdays from 1 until 7 pm. Victoria has over ten years experience and a vast array of therapeutic qualifications including; hypnotherapy, reflexology and massage. She is motivated by her fascination about people, how and why we behave the way we do and this perpetuates her continual desire to learn more. Everything she has learned to date about herself, people and psychology informs her counselling practice and she believes can only help her become a better therapist and empathise more effectively with her clients and where they are at. Counselling, Victoria believes, is often one of the most misunderstood therapies. There seems to be a misconception that people need to be in severe psychological distress, or have a specific problem, which as we know isn't always the case, sometimes we can all feel just a little bit lost in our own lives. Victoria believes there isn't a person alive that couldn't do with a (therapeutic) hour a week to offload about what is going on for them, to a neutral, experienced, confidential professional. To qualify as a Counsellor there is not only rigorous training, but also a necessity to have a vast amount of personal counselling (on most courses this is at least 40 or 50 hours). This is counselling about yourself, your life, your issues, it is not a learning exercise. This means your counsellor is not some perfect being that has all the answers and training and is there to judge you. They are a very real human being who has had (and likely continues to have) real life issues and has been forced to confront them in a very similar way to that which you are faced with. They understand what it feels like to be in that client chair, and their work is informed by education and personal experience that enables them to empathise with you and where you are at. If you are not sure about counselling, what it's all about and whether it's for you, please do feel free to book a free initial consultation with Victoria, that's exactly what she offers them for. ![]() Zoé Carroll is our life coach and is a Master NLP Practitioner and Time Based Techniques Practitioner. She has also been a Sports Therapist for over 20 years. She works at the clinic every Friday afternoon from 1-7pm. Coaching is about supporting people to be the best version of themselves, living their best life and moving towards making their dreams come true. Coaches are trained to listen, and to ask questions which can help you to look at an issue from a different perspective, guiding you to your own answers. We can then work together to assist you in developing your own ideal plan. A coach doesn't mentor or offer advice, but can help you to find your own way forward in your personal or work life. Zoé can help you to find your confidence, reduce anxiety and take control of your life. This can be through changing behaviours, such as over-eating or avoiding certain situations, or through the use of techniques designed to help you see or experience things differently. Using time-based techniques, Zoé can help you to heal past hurts, re-experience the feelings from your life's highlights to help you connect with your achievements, or even experience a potential future event to see how it might feel when you get there. Zoé says "When I was a sports coach, I helped athletes to train so that they could perform their best on the field or court, but also to look at their mental blockages, such as working with those who became so nervous before a match that they couldn't play their game as well as they knew that they could. This prepared me well for life coaching, because many people I see have similar issues to those athletes; anxiety, feelings of inadequacy or worry about failing. The good news is, using my coaching and NLP training, I can help even more people to achieve their best at the most important game of all - the game of living your life the way you want to!" NLP is short for Neuro-linguistic programming. Neuro relates to our mind, linguistic is to do with language and programming is a term most frequently seen relating to computers, but is to do with the 'programmes' that we run in our minds, many of which we don't realise are running as part of our own programming. This programming can come from our upbringing, our experiences, our culture, our beliefs or any way of thinking or being that we have developed to cope with events that have happened in our lives. And just like computer programmes or apps, these programmes need updating or renewing when they become outdated. The trouble is, most people don't know how to do this, and that is where a coach comes in. We help you to reprogramme how you use your mind and your language to replace old or broken programmes so that you run more smoothly, and when that happens, you will feel that everything feels easier and you may feel happier, more positive, more confident, more capable, more empowered - more of whatever it was that you were lacking when you sought support. Coaching is a subtle method of working, much of the serious business of coaching feels more like a conversation, with the coach asking you questions that seem straightforward, and help you to look at something in a different way than you usually might. This on it's own can be enough to bring about some change, but NLP training gives the coach many tools (often referred to as processes) that they can use to take you through a brain rehearsal so that the change that you wanted to achieve feels completely natural and part of your usual way of being when it takes effect. Coaching can be a quick and effective method for bringing about change because the processes allow the change to feel natural immediately. The changes can last a lifetime, or may need some tweaking to make them even more effective. For example, if you wanted to feel confident in a specific situation and had coaching around that, there may be some effect on your general confidence levels, but to really solidify the change so that you felt really confident across more situations, you may require some more coaching. Coaching can also work in a 'content-free' way. This means that if your belief, behaviour of way of being are as a result of something that happened to you that you don't want to talk about at that time, the coach doesn't need to know the details or even the content of that event in order to be able to help you. This is another reason that working as a collective is beneficial to us and to you as our client, because whatever therapy you may need, we can work together to offer you the right support at the right time. If, once you have received coaching you feel that you need more support from a counsellor for example, we have other members of the collective who can offer this (keep following the blog for more about that coming soon). Please use the contact page to book with Zoe now. Eastbourne Therapy Collective had our launch night on Friday 31st May at our lovely venue in The Old Printworks. It was a wonderful experience to welcome so many friends, supporters, and members of the public who are interested in what we do. For me, it made it feel more real and showed that what we are doing here has the potential to reach many more people than we could if any of us were trying to do the same on our own. We all have expertise and experience that compliments each other, meaning that if one of us needs support, the others in the collective are there to step in and help. Having this support from one another allows us to be brave and creative and really bring our best self to our clients when we see them. The energy that having so many people in the space gave us was one of the highlights of the evening and gave our next brilliant idea! We are going to host a range of lovely evening workshops to give people a feel for what we do, have a relaxed and enjoyable evening out and support both the Eastbourne Therapy Collective and the charity Muma Nurture and of course, showcase just a taster of some of the wonderful things that we can offer. So add these dates to your diaries folks and keep an eye on the facebook page for updates! We can't wait to meet you! Words by Zoé Carroll of Eastbourne Therapy Collective and Living Better Life Coaching
We can't wait to meet all of you at our launch event tomorrow!
That's right, Friday 31st May at 7-9pm at Muma Nurture and the Eastbourne Therapy Collective, 9 The Old Printworks, 20 Wharf Road, Eastbourne, BN21 3AW. Come and join us for wine and nibbles and to see where we work and hear about what we do. Be part of our community of friends, supporters, clients and even new members of the collective - everyone is welcome, and we can't wait to meet you all! As well as the excitement of a launch event, the planning for this reminded me of all of the benefits of being a team of people. We had a meeting, we all decided what we needed to do and the event is coming together seamlessly. That is the power of working collectively. That freed us all up individually to focus on our own clients, plan our future events and learn new things that will enable us to be even better practitioners. Working with other people with different ideas and styles of doing things can only bring more variety into our practice, which can only be a good thing for our clients, and for the practice. And to borrow a quote from leadership expert Kenneth H Blanchard - “None of us is as smart as all of us.” I feel like a superhero when I'm with these women - awesome, powerful and capable of anything.... See you at the launch party!! Therapists, coaches and counsellors want to help people, that’s why we do what we do. But being a people person and setting out to help other people can often be a lonely journey. Rather than just renting space in Muma Nurture as independent therapist and coaches, we thought it would be much nicer to share our knowledge, expertise and expenditure by joining together and becoming one group. |
